Advisory (ADV 100)
Advisory is the daily check in spot  at school.  It's where students track grades and credits set goals, get help with assignments, and build good habits.  They  also learn useful life and career skills.  Advisory is designed to keep students organized, supported, and on track to graduate.  In addition emphasis is placed on improving reading literacy, and college and career readiness.

Ag Plant & Soil Biology 1 (CTE 176)
This plant biology course and CTE pathway provides students with an understanding of the fundamental processes and science behind Earth’s cycles and growing plants. Representative topics include the anatomy and genetics of plants, crop production, plant pests and diseases, earth systems, biomes, climate change, STEM careers in plant and soil science.

This plant biology course and CTE pathway provides students with an understanding of the fundamental processes and science behind Earth’s cycles and growing plants. Art 1 (VAP 100)
This course introduces students to a variety of artistic media, techniques, and concepts while fostering creative expression, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students will develop technical skills, explore personal themes in their work, and learn how art connects to the world around them.

This is a SAI(Specialized Academic Instruction) class for Resource Students to support credit recovery and give support in general education classes per IEP.

This high school Economics course emphasizes real-world personal finance while fully aligning with California state standards. Students explore essential topics such as careers, budgeting, saving, credit, investments, spending, taxes, and insurance. Core economic concepts like opportunity cost and supply and demand are woven throughout the curriculum to build strong decision-making skills. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to make informed financial choices in their daily lives and future careers.

They will be asked to learn and review vocabulary and grammar.  They will be asked to read and respond to a variety of writing consisting of  poetry, short stories, non fiction, and novels.  Students shall be asked to express their understanding of materials and  their agreement or disagreement. This will be accomplished in line with the California Language Arts Standards

This high school Government course examines politics in our modern age while aligning with California state standards. Students explore the structure and functions of government, the Constitution, political parties, elections, and the role of media in shaping public opinion. Contemporary political issues and civic engagement are emphasized to help students understand how government impacts their daily lives. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to think critically, participate responsibly, and navigate today’s political landscape.

Graphic Design 1

Students will learn in a digital environment developing competency in Adobe Creative Cloud software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Express) on MacOS-based computers. Students will be concepting, sketching, designing, reading, writing and researching to learn the history and evolutions of graphic design and how it related to real-world scenarios.

Using the creative tools and digital software learned in GD1 to solve “real-world” creative solutions related to marketing, advertising and social media. Students learn production techniques, and apply these skills in both print and digital media. Such mediums include magazine, newspaper and social media applications.

Health and Human Biology (SCI100)
The course is designed around California Health Education Standards and focuses on the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of health and well-being. Students will actively participate in discussions and lessons about health topics relevant to teens and the broader community.

This course includes standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The scope of Mathematics I is limited to linear and exponential expressions and functions as well as some work with absolute value, step, and functions that are piecewise-defined.

The purpose of the Mathematics II course is to focus on quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; comparing their characteristics and behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Mathematics I. This course includes standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The scope of Mathematics II is limited to quadratic expressions and functions, and some work with absolute value, step, and functions that are piecewise-defined. For the Mathematics II course, instructional time focuses on five critical areas: (1) extend the laws of exponents to rational exponents; (2) compare key characteristics of quadratic functions with those of linear and exponential functions; (3) create and solve equations and inequalities involving linear, exponential, and quadratic expressions; (4) extend work with probability; and (5) establish criteria for similarity of triangles based on dilations and proportional reasoning.

This course meets the college entrance requirements for a third year of college preparatory mathematics. Students will gain experience with algebraic solutions in various concept areas, including the solutions of systems of linear equations, quadratic equations, solutions for logarithmic and exponential functions, polynomial and rational functions and solutions involving the complex number system. An investigation of trigonometric ratios,functions,graphs,identities and equations will take place in this course.

Media Arts and Production 1

This introductory course is designed to equip students with the fundamental skills and creative mindset necessary to produce compelling media in the 21st century. Through a project-based approach, students explore three core media platforms: video, audio (podcasts), and web-based content. The course covers the technical aspects of each
medium, including software and equipment usage, as well as the artistic principles of storytelling, visual design, and audience engagement. Students use Adobe Creative Cloud to aid their projects.

This course continues along the same pathway that was started in MAP1. Students get more autonomy to create their projects and dive further into Adobe CC, and their portfolio is developed to allow them to pursue opportunities beyond high school. They get opportunities to enter contests and film festivals, as well.

Spanish 1 focuses on language development and the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.  This course uses thematic units as a means of 
developing foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in 
Spanish along with using Spanish in everyday situations.

This course will cover the most relevant history events in United States history. This course will link major events and themes through conflicts, inventions, social movements, and current events. Throughout this course students will be exposed to the ways in which the United States has been shaped through various political, economic, and cultural forces. The goal is to make these historical events relevant to students’ lives.

World History Ethnic Studies
SST 150
World History Ethnic Studies analyzes world history from 1700 - present and focuses on systems of power, how they were created, and how they impact the world, students’ local communities, and individual identities.  This course explores the social, political, geographical and economic factors that have transformed governments, societies and cultures around the world. This class aims to develop respect and empathy for individuals and groups of people locally, nationally, and globally while understanding the roots of modern power structures and fostering active social engagement.

CURRICULUM

CURRICULUM

Renaissance is an alternative curriculum with smaller class sizes and a more personalized learning experience.  Our emphasis is on a basic academic program stressing reading, writing, and math.  We offer a variety of Career Technical Education Pathways from Graphic Design to Media Arts and Production to Agriculture Plant Soil Science.  Our smaller class sizes are designed to provide each student with more one-on-one instruction as well as guidance.  New students are invited at the beginning of each quarter.
 
Our program consists of an Advisory class and 5 academic class periods that meet everyday, with students taking both academics courses as well as electives.  Students may increase their elective choices as they complete basic graduation requirements.
